The Powerload thing is a really slick feature I love. The Line IQ could use a little more delicacy–it really has a big impact when it decides to release more line. That being said, it’s still a million miles better than whacking the stupid head all over the place trying to get more line out. Lots of power. If you just have a smaller suburban lawn, don’t hesitate to pick up one of Ego’s small, light batteries. I use the 6 AH battery that came with my lawnmower; it’s way too heavy and I don’t use half the capacity. The optional shoulder strap accessory becomes mandatory, frankly, even if the trimmer itself isn’t actually that heavy.

I own a few EGO products, so I didn’t need the battery or charger. First time using it I found that it cuts everything, and I mean EVERYTHING! As some have mentioned it is a bit on the heavy side, but I picked up a shoulder strap and it made a world of difference. I just aim it and it does the work.On a side note, I gave it a thorough workout (almost an hour), even using it to cut along the perimeter of my galvanized fence and never had to give it a “bump” to extend the (.95) line.Yet another EGO product that lives up to it’s name!

It’s quiet, works as it should, but it’s a bit heavier than a traditional trimmer with similar capabilities, at least when using a 5Ah battery. I also wish it would come with a shoulder strap (you’re gonna want one). If the battery was positioned closer to the pivot point where a strap would be, it would look weird. but it would be a lot easier to handle.

This replaces a high-end gas model from a major commercial manufacturer. This unit is MUCH quieter and does not have all the fumes. Plus, no storing a can of gas in the garage or shed. Battery life is very good. I can use the 5Ah battery that came with my Ego mower, and have plenty of juice to trim and mow on a single charge. My yard is about 3000 square feet.Weight is equivalent to the gas trimmer with a full tank, and balance is good, once the handle is adjusted properly. The gas unit was more powerful and had a smaller, more maneuverable head. But, for a residential yard, this works great.

NOT SURE ABOUTS:~Line IQ releases line intermittently which makes a sudden increase in cutting force and diameter which can lead to gouging the grass. I thought it would be smooth gradual release buts its more like 10 seconds of cutting and then sudden extension, and you have to quickly pull back to avoid gouging, which makes it hard to do a long smooth edge. My black and decker also had a similar periodic release of line that wasn’t that smooth. Expected this to be better.Update: On a second week run I had less issues, maybe the line settled in and the release of line was much less noticeable. I changed nothing about the machine except maybe the battery was less charged. That could have dampened the intensity of the release.~The power load didn’t work the first try, it just made noises. But took the line out and tried again and it worked.NEGATIVES-With a 5.0 battery this thing is definitely heavier than my black and decker electric so they really should have included the strap. 25$ is insane markup for a 25 to 50 cent manufacturing cost. They give you the strap bracket but no strap. You can buy another brand strap for 10$ and I did, but shouldn’t of had to.-My black and decker also has a wheel for sidewalk edging so you can just roll down the sidewalk for a consistent cut. This would help with the weight and control.POSITIVES+It does have plenty of power compared to my B&D and does run forever. The B&D needed 3x 2.0ah batteries to do its job. One EGO 5.0 battery let me mow, hedge trim, weed trim and do some blowing before it got weak.+The power trigger and safety is a really great and light design. The B&D would cramp my hand after a few minutes, the spring was so strong, so much so that I put a clamp on it permanently while I’m working.+Lower handle rotates easily for switching to edge trimming. Don’t even need to unlock and relock if the tension is set right. However its a bit awkward when using a strap.

Very pleased with my new weed trimmer. Long battery life and great cutting

This electric trimmer has the power of a gas model without having to deal with gas, oil, or any of the otherthings you’d normally have to replace on the gas models. Lightweight and it even loads itself. My 1st one lasted 4 years. I bought another one immediately. It services around 50 lawns a month and does some extra heavy duty clearing occasionally.

My complaint with every weed eater that I’ve used is that it isn’t really designed to hold comfortably. I think the people that design these things have never actually used one. I found the most comfortable way to hold this is to tuck the battery pack up under my arm. The weed eater itself works great and it isn’t loud and the tone of the electric motor isn’t harsh to the ears. The auto feed function works well and the overall weight is very nice. I like this but feel the angles could be a little different for added comfort

Great trimmer! Easiest one I’ve ever used!Much more powerful than all my corded electric ones and almost as powerful as my big gas brush cutter, but this one is much lighter. I use it with a 5ah battery, but the 2.5ah battery would make it even lighter. Highly recommend!

The best string trimmer I’ve ever used.I absolutely love this tool. I have several Ego tools that I am very pleased with. All batteries work with all tools and I have plenty of batteries so buying this tool without the battery was a nobrainer. The self feed (Line IQ) works seamlessly. As the line is broken or shortened by use it automatically advances more line with no interruption to use & no more tap & go. Their is always line available. I never liked loading new line on the old trimmer & I have not had to load new line on this one yet but look forward to trying the power load feature. It looks to be easy.
