Saw cuts very well initially with, however I am currently using a 6 ah battery and 9 ah is recommended. Actually cuts faster than my old gas Husqvarna as long as the battery is cool. Cutting a dying maple with an approximate diameter of 22 inches. The wedge cut went well, the back cut not so well. The saw kept cutting out and I noticed the battery was very warm. After sitting for awhile, it cut ok then back to cutting out as the battery warmed back up. Had to pull out the cheap 10″ lime green pruning competitor using their 4 and 6 ah batteries to assist with the back cut and do the limbs, cut much slower but didn’t stop when the batteries warmed up.

Over the years I’ve had 4 or 5 electric chainsaws, most have been slow at best. While this saw isn’t as fast as any of my professional saws, it comes close. Even though I have 3 pro saws, for firewood up to about 16″ diameter I grab this saw more often than one of the pro saws. It cuts slightly slower but is so quiet and less vibration that keeps me using this rather than the pro gas saws. I have 3 Husqvarna saws and have used exclusively them for many years, but then my wife wanted a chainsaw for light trimming, fruit trees and such so I got her a DeWalt 20V chainsaw. It worked so well I bought this 60V saw when I saw they were available, but for me, not my wife. Glad I did!

It works great but it likes to throw the chain more then I think it should.

I have 2 gas saws as well, but this is what I use most often. Great for cutting reasonably large diameter firewood, never needs gas/oil, plug, or service, and no gas to go bad over time. Good run time on a battery. As you would expect, still need good bar oil.

Works fantastic, cuts trees faat.Major drawback is battery life. Don’t expect to get a lot of cuts from one fully charged 9Ah battery. If I hadn’t gotten it on sale I would have returned it.Major drawback the battery are very expensive.

Anyone who owns the first generation DCCS670 and loves it clearly does not use it heavily enough.I live on 20 acres and have a woodstove I depend on, so cutting and splitting wood is something I deal with most of the year. I have a few gas chainsaws and this cordless one for convenience.I bought the very first generation DCCS670 when it came out. They had a flawed bar oiler pump. I don’t mean the sump being clogged with sawdust, but the pump itself was faulty, which required a complete teardown to get to. The bar oiler leaked like crazy too. All chainsaws do to an extent, but this one was obnoxious. We will see how the new one does. The chain tensioner was garbage as well. I remember it breaking, and I ordered the replacement, and I could tell a design change had been made. But even with it properly working, it did a poor job of keeping tension, more than any other chainsaw I’ve ever used.Other points – it had a silly, pointless plastic bucking bar. The new one has a steel bucking bar. This new model has a raised bar oiler filler neck, which I love, because sawdust does not readily fall into it like the previous model. This one actually uses two studs to hold the bar in place, like any typical heavy duty chainsaw. The previous one had a single bolt keep it in place. It liked to walk around and eat the plastic backing plate underneath it.Eventually the trigger on the old DCCS670 became stuck in the on position, and that was the final straw for me.Clearly Dewalt learned from their old model and made some needed improvement.I have four 9.0 ah batteries I use and a four dock fast charger. Use two batteries, than switch em out. 9.0ah batteries last roughly as long as a tank of gas/oil mix in a traditional chainsaw.Being electric, the battery life depends heavily on the chain being sharp. They use a low drag, low profile chain for a reason. Keep it sharp.I’m on point about updating reviews, and will edit this if a problem comes up. Otherwise, very excited about this chainsaw.

Background…I have 4 Stihl gas chainsaws that I have used to cut up trees and for cutting firewood for 40 years. This little battery powered saw is amazing. We had a Derecho here in central Illinois and I had lotsa limbs and trees down in my yard and my 30 acre virgin timber. Cut every bit of it up with this saw.As others said it does leak bar oil when stored…I turn it upside down and that stops that problem. One thing I like is when you release the trigger IT STOPS RUNNING! I know me and many others have walked thru brush while trimming with a running gas saw…which is dangerous and shouldn’t be done. Now no problem with this saw!
