I got this saw for some occasional, around the house chores and within one day of having it my front tree fell over due to some strong wind. It was a mid sized tree and I made short work of it. I am very pleased with how effective the saw was and how this small saw did the job. I did have to swap out the battery half way through the job. I was using the 20v I used with my hammer drill. A bigger battery would be ideal of I were to use this more frequently. Also, pull the front guard back until it clicks into place. I thought I had it in position and realized I had to pull it back a little harder than I was expecting. Not a bad thing, bc you dont want it accidentally flopping back and forth.

I bought this saw almost 3 years ago as I live on top of a mountain and occasionally have to cut my way to/home from work. In the past I would seasonally carry a small gasser with me in hopes of eliminating some hand sawing and/or walking. Thinking that I should probably keep the brain cells I have left and not drive around with gas fumes, I decided to try one of these cute little things. I’m already on the DeWalt 20v platform, so there are always batteries around. I loved the saw from the minimal use it has had over the last couple years. Then last week happened…I got a message from a neighbor while at work one evening saying there was a tree with vines down over the road and that parking. crawling, and walking were in my near future. Dropped what I was doing and hit the road. GPS had me there 15 minutes after sunset. Weather app had me there in a steady rain. Got there, did recon, and saw there were three locust trees (10-16″) completely engulfed in vines blocking 30′ of road at a switchback. Fight or flight…cut or walk. Put on my 8″ Chippewa loggers, headlamp, a fresh 10ah battery, and started swinging. Embrace the suck, right? Lil DeBbie (as I call her) went to town. As anyone who has been in a similar sh!tuation knows, vines and chainsaws don’t play well together. Her weight and size were perfect for getting through them. Chain speeds for battery saws is low but they try to make up for it in torque. I had to stop and clear the jammed sprocket about 10 times but that was easy enough with the tool-less design. An hour on the vines, 30 minutes on the trees, and one spent 10ah battery got me home to a hot shower. Cleaning the saw up the next day I decided it was time to give her credit. If you are shopping, learn their advantages, disadvantages, strengths, and limitations before you buy. For piddling around the yard, any battery will do. For possible emergencies, I absolutely suggest a 10ah with a 6ah fallback. These are two of the strongest running packs DeWalt has.The standard review question is…would you buy again? ABSOLUTELY!!! In fact, I may buy a second and am currently shopping for the 60v saw for bigger jobs. I never thought I would see the day that my gasser saws became the backups. Cheers!

I bought this saw to use with my bucket truck. It’s something I do part time but have been very impressed with this little saw I’m using 6 Amp batteries and they have great run time. The only thing I don’t like is the safety lock for the trigger I really wish it was a double trigger safety instead but I’m still very satisfied with this product.

I have multiple chainsaws. They are loud and heavy but a necessity. That said, this is a great addition to the mix. It is basically tool-less if you discount having to sharpen the blade.I was using the medium sized 20v (5ah) batteries. These would last almost a tank of chainsaw bar oil, so they got that pretty darn close to ideal. I was cutting maple 12 inches thik with this. Its so much nicer to be using a quiet saw than a gas powered saw.Not that I recommend using one hand, but there were times when I had it easily in one hand for some of the smaller pieces of the tree.Things that are not big negatives but might be nice address in future designs:1. The bar oil reservoir cap is a bit odd to get used to. It is like a half turn instead of a screw off cap.2. The kick-back safety would be nice if there was a light or something that was on telling you that the safety is engaged. The first time you discover this you will think the battery is dead or the saw is broken.3. If takes a second for the saw to come to speed. Its almost like a soft-start… where there is not much power at the time.Do not cut by applying pressure on the bar.. this will bog the machine down. Let the saw do its thing and if the blade is sharp you wont have a problem.Definitely would recommend this item.UPDATE——————–This is still going strong. Really like using this when I can. I have done plunge cuts, cut with the top of the bar and the normal cutting on the bottom of the bar. As long as I don’t try to force the cut, I am getting pretty good cut times on a single battery.A few things that I have noted from use:1. Its really easy to overfill the bar oil. Have a rag handy so you don’t get oil in the motor.2. Do not store this with bar oil in it. It will leak every time. To be honest, all my chain saws do that, but if you are not a normal chain saw user, you will think “what the heck???!!!”.3. Make sure you sharpen the chain saw blade. Again, this needs to be done after every so many minutes of use. This is what you need to do for any chain saw blade, but its super important on this one if you want to get the maximum time cutting per battery.4. This is not suitable for a chain saw mill. Also not a surprise since most gas powered saw are not suitable either. I have found it to be very nice to use in conjunction with my mill to trim branches. Saves me a ton of time by not having to pull my gas saw off the mill.Still highly recommend this chainsaw… it kind of makes me hate getting out my gas chainsaws now.

It has been working like a charm for 2 months now. The blade has stayed sharp and the quality of the cut is excellent. The motor is still going strong. I highly recommend this saw. It is great for middle sized wood cutting.

Why Chainsaw Leaks OilPurchase Dewalt 20 volt chainsaw in 2019. Every time I put this saw away it leaks oil. I started to drain oil from chainsaw before I put it away, this worked, but sometimes I would forget. My daughter’s boyfriend bought the same chainsaw, had the same problem leaks oil, but he figure out how to STOP the oil from leaking from chainsaw. When you set chainsaw down or put away the fill cap should be in the UP POSITION, no more mess or oil leak. This works for my daughter’s boyfriend and my Dewalt 12″ 20 volt chain saw.I use 5zh or 8Ah Dewalt batteries, I have no battery power consumption problems. This chainsaw meets all my needs, I am giving it a 4 star because Dewalt chainsaw manual should have instructions of how to position to stop oil from leaking out of chainsaw.

OKbox arrived a little banged up & with a few holes in it, but nothing was damaged.nice light weight well suited for most jobs I need to do around the property.I have not tried cutting with it yet, merely tested it to ensure it was not damaged, so I do not know how long it will last with my 5 Ah batteries.Update: I got to give this some use this summer & I am not that impressed for a Dewalt product, its easy to use, the adjustments are straight forward but its gutless motor needs to run twice as fast as it does.I have a corded 16″ chain saw that will eat this for breakfast, but it does get the job donewhat I hate the most is you need to allow it to rev up to speed for about 6 to 8 seconds before you start cutting, works OK on 6″ cedar limbs & smaller but was bogging down cutting a 8″ damp dead tree that fell down so its not ideal for large diameter wood but perfect for the odd little I need it for.the next thing I don’t like is the switch setup, I actually had the trigger jam on & had to trip the safety bar switch to shut it off, I then took out the battery & tapped the handle of the saw with the plastic handle of a screw driver a few times above the trigger & it released, it had not jammed again but the design with the safety thumb lockout for the trigger being only on the left side & having to be pressed in before you can pull the trigger makes left handed use difficult.
