You will get a decent arm workout! This trimmer comes with a single 0.08″ thickness cutting line installed. The folding mechanism is an easy retaining clip that stays on the shaft and locks in-place securely.I highly recommend having at least 2 5aH batteries for a small yard up to about 1,000sqft. The 2 aH batteries will work, but they will last about 30 mins at high speed (2 setting). I used this for a back yard and front yard at about 1,000sqft each. It took me about an hour since it was my first time trimming a lawn with a trimmer. With preactice, you’ll be done even faster! There is no setting to adjust the height of the cut, so you have to use good technique to cut the grass to the height you want. Be careful trimming around rocks, mulch, and other loose hard materials, as this device will send flying any of those objects! This model is quiet compared to the gas-powered variety, but I highly recommend hearing protection to avoid the long-term damage ringing sound years later. I also highly recommend eye protection: Even if you only cut grass, you will send it flying everywhere, and it will try to get in your eyes! Wear a dust mask when using this machine! A respirator is not needed. This device will stir up bugs, pollen, dirt, and anything else on the ground, so I wear one to avoid strep throat for 2 weeks.Wear closed-toe shoes! You will get the cutting string close to your feet occasionally for cuts uphill of downhill, or near curbs and streetlights. For cleaning, use a 5gal bucket with a nylon (not metal, it will scratch the finish!) bristle brush for car tires and some hand soap for hard to reach areas. The head WILL get covered in grass. Use a sponge for general areas.Wear clothes for your dirty jobs, your pants will get grass stains, and you’ll smell like grass. Take a shower afterwards to get rid of the smell and avoid irritating your throat.Lastly, take the battery out before cleaning, and so not soak or spray this device with water! It can spin up while holding the head for changing out the string or cleaning if you’re not careful where the handle is resting, and lay it on it’s left side where the switch and trigger are. This device is not designed to be submerged or soaked with water, so only wipe it down and let it dry a day or 2 if you get any water in the vents or motor.

Overall the trimmer – trims just fine. I bought because I have a fleet of DeWalt tools / batteries / chargers, so the tool only DeWalt was the best choice for me. I primarily use 5 amp hour batteries, so this is what I used in the line trimmer. The 5 AH batteries worked fine, however I discovered after 15-20 minutes of “work” the trimmer cut out; aka stopped working. Battery still had some charge, but was warm. I switched batteries and it worked again, but cut off after about 5 minutes.A quick check in the owners manual s indicated that there were thermal protectors for both overheated batteries and / or motor. I’m assuming that’s what I had.Let the unit sit for 15-20 minutes, put in a cool battery and it worked fine.My assessment is the trimmer is great for light duty and short term heavy duty, but for prolonged continuous use applications it’s going to force you to rest it for cool down of the motor and/or battery.I was cutting tall grass, approximately 8-10” high, dry. The area was large, requiring 60 minutes or more of continuous operation, which didn’t happen. This is a pretty tough test for a battery trimmer, my old gas trimmer would not have required a cool down period.I don’t mind the cool down period because not having a can of 50:1 in the garage, and wondering if my old gas unit would start is an even trade off for the battery unit; in my opinion.I doubt a commercial landscaper who has employees trimming non-stop 2-3 hours straight would find the needed cool down periods acceptable. I also found it bothersome to carry additional batteries as I walked along the bank I was cutting. I have no idea why I carried the batteries vs let them sit like I would a gas can – but it seemed like a feasible option since the 5 AH batteries can fit in a large pocket. I’m thinking thinking the batteries were more easily stolen vs a random gas can, so I wanted to keep them close; they’re also way more ex than a gas can of 50:1 fuel.I’m keeping the trimmer, I’ll adapt.

Wish I’d bought one of these years ago !I am very happy with this weed whacker :-)For years I’ve made do with cheapo plug-in weed whackers picked up at yard sales and hey, they’ve done the job ok. Now I needed one i could take further than a cable would reach so bought one of these and now am wishing I’d got one years ago !This thing is a “weed terminator”, it goes through just about everything. It has munched through brambles, even small maple branches. Super easy to use. I’ve been using a pair of 5Ah batteries with it, I’m generally having to swap the first one out if it is more than a quick job, but haven’t gone through both of them yet.Downsides – It is a little on the heavy side, but it is pretty solid. I switch holding it from one side to the other intermittently. It isn’t so heavy that I’m forced to take a break though. I will probably try and rig up a shoulder sling to take some of the weight. With brambles and vines, it will sometimes get them wrapped around just above the cutting head which makes it halt. It is easy though to turn it upside down and pull them off.Tip – it comes pre-loaded with cord, but not much of it. If you like it on the first use I’d suggest buying/ordering more cord straight away.Overall, I am very happy with this tool and very impressed with what it can do. I would recommend this.

My wife loves it!It’s light weight, easy to control, folding up to store it away is a bonus. Lots of power even without the extra higher speed. Well worth the money.
