Great Battery –
Great impact drill

Replaced my 30 year old 18v Dewalt drills. Very satisfied with the 20v drills and hope they last as long as my 18v drills.

Sure there may be other brands that work well for less money. But we all know this brand delivers and I got the kit on a Christmas bargain.I was really pleased with the built in flashlight. And the power is much better than my old Black & Decker. Batter charge way better! And don’t discount the bag & 2nd battery of the kit. Makes things much easier and tidy.

I’ve only had the set for a day now, but I feel like I’ve tried it out enough to know what I have. Both the impact and drill have PLENTY of power, I’d say more than my older 18v Ryobi that my job has supplied me with.Being in the HVAC industry I do a lot of drilling and fastening and while I haven’t tried it on the job site yet, Id say it would fitin absolutely perfectly. I don’t plan to use it in the field as my company supplies a drill for me, no sense in wearing out my personalitems. If my boss would reimburse me to use this kit in the field, I would in a heartbeat…Pros:-Good life from the battery so far, although I haven’t used it enough to drain it yet.-Awesome ‘bite’ from the drill chuck. The ratcheting chuck will assure your bits NEVER come out, yet its very easy to remove when you want to.-Great power, the 20v definitely supplies enough power, both drivers buried screws in hardwood like it was foam.-SMOOTH clutch adjustment, you have to wrestle with my Ryobi…-Both drivers have excellent control, I could easily set screws an 1/8″ below the wood surface if I tried, with the impact,as soon as it gets level with the surface, stop, and give it a few more slow ‘taps’.-Fast, cool, charging. I don’t know how dead they were from the factory, but both were done in ~15 minutes. (love the fade-in, fade-out charge light!)-AWESOME ONE HAND BIT CHANGE on the impact, that is the best feature aside from the tri-lights. Being led’s they draw next to nothing power, no need to worry about it sucking juice.-Decent typical DeWalt hard carry case.Cons:-My drill driver has chuck wobble, BUT, I found if you use round items (drill type bits) its dead on 95% of the time. I also found if I just take the bit out and put the bit back in, sometimes that will solve the wobble issue. You shouldn’t have to do this, but it works. I used a 10″ gun cleaning rod and at the tip I couldn’t even tell it was spinning it was so dead-on. I made a video I could put up to prove it. Its when you use hex bits that I find I get the wobble. Again, removing and re-inserting seems to help, but that is annoying. For this high caliber of an item, I feel there should be no issues like this, hence the -1 star.-Only 1 light on the drill driver, it would be nice to continue the 3-led tradition of the impact, but that would make the drill less compact as it has to clear the chuck. If you use longer 4″ bits, the light does go right to the tip of the bit. SO, it does work.-No bit clip was included on my impact driver, WTH is up with that? Its a penny part, why would they not put one in? I like the one on the drill, there should be one on both for this price. All in all, great set, it was either this or the compact 18v Makita. Having used both, its a toss-up. If there was no chuck wobble, it would be a hands-down better set than the Makita.I guess only the test of time will tell how reliable it is, but it feels solid and well built, so Im hoping for the best!

I purchased this combo kit from Amazon over a month ago after reading all of the reviews and doing as much research as I could. This is the third Dewalt cordless drill I’ve owned. The last one I purchased approx. 5 years ago was a DC980KA which also has a 1/2 inch chuck. I had issues with run out (wobble) on that drill right out of the box. So it was disappointing to me that Dewalt didn’t fix this problem in all this time and with a new model drill. This made me look at other manufacturer’s drills to see if I would find a better product. What I found was that Dewalt wasn’t alone with the run out issue. Pretty much any drill that uses a 1/2 inch Jacobs spindle lock chuck was affected. So what to do? For me the important factors in choosing a drill were: 1) 1/2″ chuck (with out run out issues) 2) Li-Ion batteries 3) compact size 4) LED light available to use same batteries. The above factors ruled out the cheaper drills and my suspicion that the run out was caused by the chuck and not the drill led me back to Dewalt. Since I couldn’t live with the run out I had to come up with a solution. What I noticed when reading reviews was that no one had any problems with the higher end Dewalt hammer drills and that they had a different chuck on them. I also found a post on a message board that said that Dewalt didn’t use the Jacobs chuck on the hammer drills because they had too many problems. They used a slightly more expensive Rohm chuck instead. This lead me to look at the Rohm chuck. They are easily identified by looking at the tip of the chuck. The Rohm chuck has a “hexagon” (nut) on the front of the chuck for installing and removing the chuck. The specifications for the chuck are as follows: 1) 1.5-13mm capacity 2) 1/2 X 20 thread (for installing on drill) 3) single sleeve for drills with spindle lock 4) metal construction 5) with through hole for locking screw. The part number for this chuck is difficult to pin down since I think it has more than one number for the same chuck and the picture on Rohm’s web page shows 2 chucks, one with a single sleeve (one handed) and one with a double sleeve (two handed). On ROHM’s web page it looks like it is 893352. I’ve also seen it listed as Dewalt-Rohm 330075-74,330075-59,330075-91,586200-10. New they sell for approx $70. A used chuck lists for about half that price which is what I ended up buying. When I got the drill I tried installing a new drill bit to see how good or bad the Jacobs chuck was. It had noticeable wobble. I then removed the Jacobs chuck and installed the Rohm chuck. After installing the same drill bit in the Rohm chuck there was no noticeable wobble. I’ve since used this drill/ chuck combination daily without any problems or issues. I find the new compact size and lighter weight to be a huge advantage to this drill over my older ones. The clutch on the drill also seems to be improved over my last drill. As for the impact driver. I find that it is excellent for dis-assembly but has limited use for assembly due to not having the clutch. For those of you interested in doing this same thing Dewalt has instructions on their web page that tell you how to change the chuck. It is important to note that the set screw which can be seen in the bottom of the chuck opening has left handed threads. You will also need an appropriate size torx driver to remove it before you can remove the chuck.I would have given this kit a solid 5 star rating if it came with the Rohm chuck. It is disappointing that Dewalt is more interested in saving a few dollars than putting out a better quality product. I’m also very disappointed with Jacobs. I always thought they put out quality products and was surprised to find the root of this problem to be their chuck.

Durable, long lasting, not precise.Powerful and high rpms on the drill, the impact gets around 80’#, sometimes when torquing lugs to 92 it’s already torqued from impact. Battery lasts about as long as it takes the other to charge with regular use, 5-10 minutes heavy use, 30 minutes to charge (estimate)However the runout on both chucks is mental. Didnt expect it from a Jacobs chuck but I’ve heard DeWalt does some very intense testing before they sell these and they can mess with the chuck. You could replace with something Japanese or same thing. The selling point on these is their durability and how long they last under abuse. So far they’re working as expected.*3 year update* I’ve got tons of use out of it, built a couple hundred feet of fencing, swapped tires a couple dozen time, tore down a whole car, lots of choochin.Had a wire come unsoldered inside. It’s soldered to a male type blade that a terminal connector could have been on, which are used on other connectors in the drill. Resoldered and she’s good.

Power and light weightI bought this set in August 2018 and 1 year into ownership I am very impressed. Initially purchased it to install a steel roof on my house, and it drove hundreds of screws. Also used to build a shed this summer. The belt clip on these tools are excellent for “holstering” the tool while you need both hands (like while on a roof). Battery life at 1.5ah does leave a bit to be desired but bigger batteries exist, great balance of power to weight, incredible torque too. I also considered M18 Milwaukee, but this combo is right there in quality as well. The carrying bag is something I didn’t care about initially, but I use it for all my drill/driver accessories now. The LED lights are great for tight and dark areas, I learned this while working on kitchen cabinets.

Worth considering this kit over the DCK240C2I love DeWalt tools, but there are so many models and kits it makes my head spin!I was about to get the DCK240C2 kit when I noticed this DCK280C2 kit for only $2.00 more. This kit has 1.5Ah batteries instead of 1.3Ah and the DCD780 drill in this kit is better than the DCD771 in the other kit. Just check the pricing of the 771 vs 780 drills!I used the tools on a basement reno and I’m very pleased with the performance, especially the impact driver which sinks 2.5″ screws into studs with amazing ease. They are lightweight yet sturdy with metal where it counts. Very comfortable in the hand. Charging is quick as well. Carrying bag is a nice bonus and there is room for some accessories (bits, etc) along with the drills and batteries.

Love these. These are some of the best drills I’ve ever used. They are well built, sturdy, and always work.Previous drills I’ve used were an 18v, $80 Black and Decker and an 18v Ryobi. Both of these were used during 3 months of home renovations. I also had these Dewalts on hand. Why I had three drills I do not know….. Regardless of this, the dewalts were the go-to for usage. Not only were they smaller, lighter and easier to handle, the batteries lasted a long time! The lights are a nice touch for seeing what you are doing, and the direction switch is nice and tactile. The impact drives 8″ Lag screws for like it’s The Stig.If you can get your hands on these for a decent price do it. In my mind, there’s no equal to these.

Good quality but the drill does “clunk”Good quality product. I compared it to others and for the price this great. On sale for $235 C$. The only thing I don’t like is the drill brake in 2nd gear when it stop the is a loud “clunk”. This seems to be common and there are many threat on the internet about. I also tried three separate drills and they all do it. If you can live with that then buy it. Nice and compact to boot.
